You need to import data in Item Journal and then post it as this is standard way of posting

Never ever import data directly in Item ledger entry.

The best option for you is to use Rapid Start for that purpose. You can search for tutorials of using that, as there are plenty, e.g.: msdn.microsoft.com/.../dn848428.aspx .

As AJ Ansari suggested, you will need to import your opening item balances with quantities and amounts into Item Journal and then post it - it will produce corresponding transactions in General Ledger. Ensure you use correct technical account for balancing your stock item accounts.

Do not import directly into Item Ledger Entry. It is never advisable to import something directly into a "posted" table (generally speaking, a table that has the word "Ledger" in its name). This will result in all sorts of issues, such as your General Ledger and your subledger not matching.

The proper way is to Import all the data into a batch on the Item Journal (by using RapidStart or copying and pasting from Excel using the Paste Rows functionality), and then Post the entries from the Item Journal. This will create Item Ledger Entries AS WELL AS post details to other important tables in NAV that manage valuation of the item, etc.

I hope this helps. If my response has answered your question, please Verify by clicking Yes next to "Did this answer your question?"

There are options you can use

    1) You can create XMLPORT and import the inventory using .CSV or TXT file

    2) You can create excel file and copy in Item Joural directly. Need to arrange column as per excel or vice versa.
