HR AX 2009?

Hi there,I need support regarding the following related to HR module in AX 2009:
  1. Employees related to specific departments are managed by one team while employees related to another set of departments are managed by another team.
  2. How can we setup AX in a way that each team can only access data (employee information, recruitment project, positions, jobs,) related to the employees it managed (belong to the specific departments)?
  3. Does organization units help or related to any kind of permissions?
  4. Are Organization units related to Dimensions (Dept, cost center, purpose)? If we need to define for each employee the branch, department and sub- department, do we need to use dimensions or the organization unit?

Thanks and appreciate your support

    Hi Kareem,

Though 184 days after your question, I hope my opinion helps someone even if it's no longer useful to you.

Q1&2: It is possible to restrict access to employee records by applying data restriction by department to the administrative teams' user accounts.  For the technical specifics of how this is done, you would need to engage an Ax technical consultant to advise you fully.

Q3:  Yes.  For instance, the person specified as 'in charge' of an Organisation units can only see employees in positions related to those units.  There could be more instances where organisation unit permissions are used.  Also, you could customise the system to use the permission where you wish.

Q4: Organisation units are not directly related to Dimensions and they don't have to be when you are creating new org units i.e. it is not necessary to set dimension on org units unless you want to apply dimension validation to them.  Dimensions and Organisation units serve two different and distinct purposes: Dimensions are meant to classify employees in to cost/profit centres more for financial reporting while Organisation units have a purely HR focus and are meant for organisational management and reporting of work groups/operational teams irrespective of where their cost is allocated in the business.  As they are both usually closely aligned, you may discover that the list of organisation units could very nearly be the same as the list of cost/profit centres but generally different to varying degrees from company to company.  Dimensions are part of the basic setup of Ax so you would need to define them but may not use them as such if not implementing the financial modules.

    I hope this helps.  Cheers.
