Ledger Allocation Rule doesn't keep Source Financial Dimensions

Hello,

I have several dimensions on the source amounts and while one of them is a Basket dimension that I have to distribute, I need to keep all the other dimensions intact.

The trick is I need to keep them unchanged during allocation.

The only solution I found is to define an allocation rule for every combination of the dimensions that I need to left unchanged.

As you can imagine that would mean a lot of allocation rules.

Example:

SOURCE:

Main Account: XXX

Dim1: *

Dim2: *

Dim3: BASKET

DESTINATION:

50% on DestinationDimX

Main Account: XXX

Dim1: *

Dim2: *

DIm3: DestinationDimX

&

50% on DestinationDimX

Main Account: XXX

Dim1: *

Dim2: *

DIm3: DestinationDimY

    Hi,

Why do you need to setup a lot of allocation rules?

Is that because of the main accounts that differ?

Can't you simply select all main accounts (*) - or at least a range of accounts (for example 1000..2000) - similar to what you selected for Dim1 and Dim2?

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

My problem is not on the Main acounts.

The main account is the same.

The source dimensions can differ and out of all the combinations I just want to allocate Dim3: BASKET, into Destination Dim3: 50% on something, 50% on something else.

The issue is that by destination i want Dim1 and Dim2 to be carried over to the Journal but to remain untouched. Only Dim3 has to be reallocated.

In the example above, when you process the allocation journal, D365 creates the following lines:

    1210450-ZZZZ-ZZZ-ZZZZ : -1000

    1210450- -SIT0001- : +500

    1210450- -SIT0002-: +500

which is wrong as it doesn't carry over the existing combinations of DIm1 and Dim2 in the journal.

    Hope this was clear

    Hi Daniele,

    Got your point.

The issue with the thing that you try to achieve is that this is not fully supported in the standard application if you make use of the allocation functionality in GL.

    There is, however, an alternative.

Have you tested the allocation rules that are available at the main account Level?

Using those rules allow you to specify explicitly whether or not the financial Dimension from the source posting should be kept or not.

I would suggest that you take a look at those allocations and test them.

(=> the difference to the periodic allocation functionality is that the ones defined at the main account Level immediately do the allocation when a posting is created)

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Thanks for your reply Ludwig.

The issue with the allocation rules that post allocations immediatelly is that my client often knows(and changes periodically) the allocation percentage at the end of the month, therefore this is not applicable.

Any other alternative you might come up with ?

I have thought about using Excel add-in but it would require some Excel skill to redistribute the lines into % before importing them back and post..

    Hi Daniele,

The Excel-add in might be an option but remember that it can be slow if you need to allocate thousands of lines.

I could think of two alternatives:

    1) Make an adjustment to the ledger allocation functionality similar to what is available at the main account level (=>Keep financial dimension parameter for individual financial dimensions)

    2) Make use of the cost accounting module. Using this module requires, however, some additional setup, configuration and maintenance.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
