How can the 'Dynamics 365 - custom' app be edited or configured for Unified Interface?

Posted on by 5

Hi All,

I'm new to Dynamics 365 and am now working on upgrading our Dynamics 365 CRM to enable 'Unified Interface Only' by referring to documentation 'Update your apps to Unified Interace' https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/update-apps-to-unified-interface?source=docs.

However, I've been unable to find out what needs to be done for the application 'Dynamics 365 - custom' (highlighted in the screenshot below). I also found that for this application, there is no option for me to open it with App Designer. The account I'm using for the upgrade work has administrator access rights. I'm not sure if this app comes from Dynamics 365 by default and therefore we are not able to configure/edit it? If so, what can be done for this app if we would like to keep it after transitioning to Unified Interface?

As I'm new to this field, any background info are welcome. Thanks a lot.

    Hi Will,

You can make customization which are specific to any APP like customer service hub or sales hub or any custom app you have. If the customization is specific to this legacy app then it will go away as soon as we deprecate this app.

Bottom line is, from now on please make sure that all your functionality and customization are specific to any app solution you have so that when this legacy app goes away you do not miss any of you existing customization or functionality.

    Hi Soumen,

Thank you so much for the helpful insights. I really appreciate it. : )

Two quick follow-up questions regarding the suggestion of 'stop using this app and migrate all your work into separate UCI only apps':

    - For this legacy out-of-box application, were users allowed to add features to it (say, customization) before Unified Interface transition was recommended? Or probably it is indeed out-of-box and the users were supposed to just use it but not make any changes?

    - If this app was customizable, how can I check the corresponding implementation and in turn assess what needs to be migrated to other UCI only apps?

Thanks a lot for your help and patience. : )

    Regards

    Will

    Hello,

you can not perform the required operation on this app. ITs an out of box application which refer to the old web client . This is there as part of classic to UCI migration process and will be removed from the system going forward. You can not use app designer and you do not have to make any changes in this app. I recommend you to stop using this app and migrate all your work into separate UCI only apps.
