Do you want to replace the ZUP file message when closing NAV 2009

Hi,

In some computers when I close NAV 2009 i receive the pop up message: Do you want to replace the ZUP file?

When I click no, the custumization I have made (Show and Hide columns) on lists are not saved.

Can anyone please tell why does this message appear, and what does exactly the .zup file?

Should I click yes in order to save my costumization? Is there any way that this message doesn't appear?

Thank you

When users access the system, they face default settings of the interface. They can modify the settings, e.g. hide or reveal columns, change column places, etc. In order to get the same customized interface, NAV allows to save the changes so next time user will not have to do the same changes again. Those changes are stored in the so-called ZUP file, stored at user's computer. So, each time you make changes to the interface and quit the system, it asks you if you would like to save your changes.

RE: Do you want to replace the ZUP file message when closing NAV 2009

    Hi,

The location of ZUP file is

    C:\users\<user name>\AppData\Roaming\.

example - C:\Users\bob\AppData\Roaming\     ("bob" being my current user name)

Setup parameters for running the Microsoft Dynamics NAV Development Environment are stored in a .zup file. By default, the file is named fin.zup.

What actually is stored in zup file:

When a user closes the development environment, any setup changes the user has made are saved to the .zup file. If you Delete the zup file then you will loose the setup you have done like,

Database name, Database server name. The parameters that are available in the Options window. and User-specified personalization of development environment windows, such as window size, window position, column order, column visibility, and column width.

So next time you open Development Environment then you will have to select the Server, Database manually. and all the personalization that is specific to your user is lost.

You can also change the location of zup file if you want.

To change the name and location of the .zup file, run the development environment at a command prompt and specify the path and ID in the id parameter.

Thank you, I now understand what is the zup file about. I also would like to know when does the message appear? Because from my computer when I show/hide columns I do not receive any message and the changes are automatically saved. It only happens in some cases.

    Hi,

As the Message says "Replace ZUP file", it occurs when you make some significant changes.  It is just asking you if you want to replace the older ZUP file with the newer one.

As you are selecting NO... it is not saving your new changes and keeping older one.

    Hope it answers...

In both computers I do the same thing, show and hide columns in item list. From my computer it is saved automatically when closing NAV, without any ZUP file message, and from the other computer it is saved when clicking yes to the message Do you want to replace ZUP file.

RE: Do you want to replace the ZUP file message when closing NAV 2009

i have experienced that, if there are different version of NAV or different instances or NAV are being accessed on a system then it generally asks for the confirmation message. Probably in your personal computer you access just a single DB or Single Instance.

In my laptop when i access same Version(2016) it never asks but as i open another Version (Development env) and close it asks for the same message while closing both the DB.

Whenever user changes any default settings in interface then system will try to save those settings in ZUP file so next time when user logs in system it will be same.

Due to this system ask to replace the ZUP file when user closes the client

    Hi Dynamicsuser123

This Message Appear when User has done some Changes or the Rationalization on His system as example he changes the column only he need to enter on sales order & purchase order forms by hiding some columns, after do this when he close system it will prompt this message in order save the changes user has done to his system, Generally you need say "Yes" for the message that will save you changes made and if you say 'No" that will not save your changes on the system.

This is only one thing that Zup file is Stored and if you need more information about it please refer link below
