Organizing items and bins for put-aways

Hi everyone,

I would like to ask for opinions here in case I get something wrong. I am preparing my warehouse and would like to know what options I have to do the following :

  • Try and keep items by same vendor in similar racks and bins (each vendor might have more than 50 items)
  • Keep the heavier items closer to the floor bins on the racks

From my understanding is that with bin contents you can set max weight so you would set the bins in higher levels in rack with less max weight.

Regarding organizing items from the same vendor to be together I am not too sure how this can be done, again with bin contents you can manually fix the bin for each item from that vendor but when you have more than 100 items it can get tedious. Especially when we have many bins.

Any advice would be really helpful.

Thanks

    Hi

I was in environment that done the first one and in environment that done the second. In all cases the plan worked as far as they maintain correctly.

The setup I liked the most was based on "usage" they put all parts (let say A parts) closer to door and in weight base and then they put B parts little further. This way they saved time for their employee.

I just say look this problem from "physical warehouse" and see which method is more logical to maintain warehouse better and more efficient.
