Importing New Items from Excel

I have been looking for information on how to import/create new items from excel. I have found a lot of information on editing or adding attributes to existing items, but have been unable to find anything on new items.

My situation: I have an excel file with part numbers and descriptions, and need to create a new item number in the system for each line in the spreadsheet. Adding them manually would take days.

Please let me know if you need more information to be able to assist.

Thank you!

    Hi Jburdine,

You can use rapid start to create your new items. I hope you have a test system to try this.

    Go to /Departments/Administration/Application Setup/RapidStart Services/Configuration Packages.

Create a new package and add Table 27 to the Table list.

In the submenu under Table select the Fields option and exclude the field that you don't need.

Export the template to excel with the Excel submenu Export to Excel:

Transfer your records from your existing excel to the template. Then you can use the Excel submenu/Import from Excel option to import the records.

Once the import is done you can try to Apply the Data using Functions/Apply Data.

If you have any issues with the data the table will be highlighted with red and you will see the number of errors. You will be able to drill down on them to see the actual problem.

If you leave the No. field blank in the template and the Item number series is assigning numbers automatically the application will give you new item numbers.

    Hello Marcell.

Thank you much for your assistance. I'm on the right track I think!

I do have a quick question for you. After I've selected my fields, I choose "export to excel", and it gives me all of the existing items in our system currently. Should I add my new items to that list, or should I delete those from the exported file and add my new items?

    Thanks

    Hi,

You can delete the existing items from the spreadsheet or under the table menu you can choose the Filter option and add an empty item no filter. Then when you export the file your data will not be included.
