GP 2013 GL Excel Paste Error

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi All,

We recently upgraded to GP2013 and we are facing small GP issues as they come. The most recently issue I Received from one of our GP user is as it states below.

"I am having an issue with the Excel Paste function in the GL entry screen.

When using the Excel Paste with a batch, the error message below with occur
when I try to run the edit listing for the batch. Even though I have not
posted the batch, the batch will end up in batch recovery where I will have
to fix it".

The stored procedure glpPostBatch returned the following results: DBMS: 0, Microsoft Dynamics GP: 20052. The "More info" button tells me: glpPostAccount: Error occurred NULL parameter.

I do not have this problem when I manually enter general journals - I have never encountered a limit when I do not use cut and paste.

I did some research and came up with a blog that seemed to have the same issue but we applied his solution the error still occurred.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Eleazar

    Hello Eleazar,

I have tried several possible scenarios trying to re-produce the error in both GP 2013 R2 and GP 2015, but all in vain.

Can you provide the steps to reproduce the error  ?

This may actually be related to a known issue we have, let us know if this is what you're running into:

    1.       In order to recreate this issue, the user must be in a company where multicurrency has never been marked as registered. To create a new company with MC not marked as registered:

         a.       Click on Microsoft Dynamics GP >> Tools >> Setup >> System >> Registration.

         b.      Unmark Multicurrency.

         c.       Close GP.

         d.      Open GP Utilities, and create a new company with a default chart of accounts.

    2.       Log into the new non-MC registered company as sa.

    3.       Find two accounts that are included in the default chart of accounts (Cards >> Financial >> Account), and modify the attached Excel file to credit one and debit the other.

    4.       Copy and paste the first journal entry as part of the EXCEL PASTE batch

         a.       Highlight the data to be copied from excel, and click CNTRL + C.

         b.      Click on Transactions >> Financial >> General:

         c.       Batch = EXCEL PASTE

                        i.      Add and save EXCEL PASTE batch when prompted.

         d.      Reference = Test

         e.      DO NOT move cursor out of Reference field.

         f.        Click the Paste button and then click SAVE

    5.       After clicking Save in previous step:

         a.       Do not click in the scrolling window; simply click Paste again (can be same entry or different from previous).

         b.      Enter Reference and click Save.

      6.       Print an Edit List (printer icon in upper right hand corner)

    Expected results:

--The edit list should print without error

    Actual Results:

    --The following message is generated:

"The stored procedure glpPostBatch returned the following results: DBMS: 0, Microsoft Dynamics GP 20052"
    "glpPostAccount. Error occurred NULL parameter"

What was listed as a possible work-around is this:

    Workarounds:

Place the cursor in the Account Field prior to clicking the Excel “Paste” button.
Or, update the XCHGRATE field to 0 in GL10001 prior to printing edit list/posting.

Robert Meade, who posted the original issue referenced above in the GP User Group (GPUG) Forum updated his earlier post with the following rules for pasting into GL from Excel:

    1. Always position the cursor in the first entry position before pasting from Excel.

    2. If your cursor ends up anywhere other than the blank account after your paste data, delete the bottom "blank" line, because it only appears to be blank.

This is not unlike an old issue in Dynamics SL, which has supported cut and paste from Excel for a very long time. When users pasted from Excel, sometimes a blank line was saved as part of the transaction. This would cause the transaction to stuck when posting, and it had to be fixed using SQL. It appears as if trying to save/post the transaction in GP with a blank line at the end causes this error instead.

    Eleazer,

I wound up writing a blog article this weekend on using the Paste from Excel feature. I hope you find it useful, here is a link:

    Derek,

Do you have a CR # and a version fixed?  We just ran into this with a client today.  I have provided the workarounds, but would love any updates on the fix.

    Thanks!

    Hello Heather,

What was found on this, is that it isn't really so much a bug with the application, but an issue related to Open XML.

This functionality uses Open XML and in the cases that users are running into this not working, they have the following line added to their Dex.ini file for Dynamics GP:

           UseCOMForExcelExport=TRUE

By default, this line is not in the Dex.ini, so if its added and set to TRUE, it'll cause this GL Excel Paste functionality not to work.

This line is used for some SmartList functionality/issues, which is why some users add it to their Dex.ini file.

Additional information is mentioned here as well:

    Thanks,

Thanks Derek for the additional information - I will pass it on to my team.
