GP Upgrade- Update Modified Forms and Reports

Hello,

I am in the process of upgrading from 2010 to 2015 to 2016.

During my upgrade from 2010 to 2015 when running the Update Modified Forms and Reports, I received this error:

Capture-Update-Mod-Forms-and-Reports-error.PNG

I had copied the reports.dic from the old 2010 server to the 2015 server, checked dynamics.set for file location and ran the process.  I had experienced this issue before and resolved it by Exporting Customizations from the previous version and importing, but still getting the error.

I moved on to the 2015 to 2016 upgrade since a sample of custom reports were running.  I continue to get the error with the 2016 upgrade.  I do have 1 recently customized report (PM TB with Options Summary) that I added an aging bucket to that is not pulling the bucket.

Any thoughts on the error or why some reports would appear to be updated but others not.

Thanks!

Can you copy this REPORTS.DIC file and then modify DYNAMICS.SET to point to this location? You will need to modify the DYNUTILS.SET file in the same way.  You could reboot the server upon which the REPORTS.DIC resides to see if the file lock is released.

    Hi,

After renaming the Reports.dic, can you rename it in your Dynamics.set file (after copying it to the .set folder) and then run the update?

Hello,  I have 2 separate servers to perform the 2015 and 2016 upgrades.  I can rename reports.dic

    Hi,

This is a tip I learned from Tim and Luke Hickey to free up a lock on the Reports.dic.

From the command prompt, type: net file , then hit the enter key.

this will return a list of locked files including the user name and ID# of the locked file. Make note of the ID#.

Next, still at the command prompt, type: net file ID# /close, then hit the enter key.

This should unlock the file. A file can become locked if someone didn't properly exit the system. Clearing the Activity files and such will not clear the lock.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

Something is preventing you from opening the REPORTS.DIC file. Is the a security issue? Try renaming the file, does it allow that?  Do you have to have two GP sessions open at once on this computer?

    Hello,

Thanks for the suggestion but there are no open files in the Shared Folders

For some reason the system thinks this file is in use. Go into Administrator Tools and then Computer Management and Shared Folders and see if this file is open. If it is close the file and try again.
