HI There,

Can anybody help me to understand to remove non-database components from below technet article

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj733502.aspx

I am upgrading from AX2012 Feature pack to R3, removing  non-db components includes AOS removals as well.

i can see following compnents from control panel

> Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Client and Office Addins

> Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 components

> Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Object server

> Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Setup files

> Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 Trace Parser

Which are all to be removed?

Thank you.

Regards,

Rahul

    Hi Rahul,

All these components that you have listed are non-db components. you can remove all of them, then install AX2012 R3

    Thanks,

    Ganesan

    Including AOS instance as well

Yes, just keep the database in SQL server and remove all components of AX2012 FP. you can compare the Figures 4 and 5, Image 4 has AOS, EP, SSRS, Help and client, where in image 5 has only the databases (business and model store db).

make sure all the previous steps are completed properly.

    Thanks,

    Ganesan

But if you refer next step - Run Ax2012R3 setup on test system where mentioned

Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features, and uninstall all Microsoft Dynamics AX components except the AOS instance that you are upgrading.

I think that is a typo, you can not install R3 components unless and until you remove all the components of AX 2012/FP including AOS.

You should remove all these component of Dynamics AX 2012 R2

basically it is said that Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and Dynamics AX 2012 R3 cant be installed on same machine, so you should remove all the component,

Keep the backup and install all together new.

as you want to upgrade, so you should keep DB for upgrade purpose.

Please verify and update us if you need more details.

In my scenario, i am upgrading from AX2012 FP to R3 not R2

As far as I've tested R2 and R3 can co-exists, but RTM/FP and R3 can not co-exists as microsoft has introduced Data partition concept in R2.

For AX 2012 FP also it is same case.
