What happens to unmanaged custom fields created in a managed entity after dynamics upgrade?

Hello There,

We had to create few custom fields on a managed entity (user entity to be specific). Main form of entity modified to capture data in those fields. Before widespread use, it would be nice to know what would happen to such fields after upgrade of dynamics 365 to next version. Will the fields be deleted/preserved? will data be deleted/preserved?

Thanks.

Yes, the fields and the data will be preserved post upgrade.

    Hope this helps.

Probably worth adding that even if you are doing something unsupported - it won't be deleted when Dynamics 365 is upgraded. The only thing that will happen is that your unsupported customisation may stop working (or worse, stop working and stop other things from working as expected)...

    All customizations are preserved.

    Hi,

Update: Updated my response to avoid any confusion

Nothing will be deleted from your solutions, but if you are doing something unsupported (which is not documented in SDK) in that case , it can stop your upgrade, mostly Microsoft will send you email notification regarding unsupported changes detected, you can add your fields it will be upgraded with the Dynamics 365 upgrade without any issue.
