Hi All,

I have a question for you experts regarded with the entities/fields deletion.

we have 2 different environments (dev and pro) and we use un-managed solutions, so if we delete any component in the dev when we deploy the solution in prothe deleted component is still there.

how I could delete the old components in pro?

  • there is any way to do it automatically when we deploy the solutions? is managed solutions the answer?
  • Do I should to detele the old components manually in pro

I would like to know what is the best practice

thanks

    Hello Faramendi,

Logically, prod should have managed solutions only. Since, it is not applicable in your case, and as your production environment already has Unmanaged solution.

Then the best option is to delete the components manually.

Now, any kind of other practice like deploying managed solution on top of unmanaged solution, will only create more mess for future.

Would suggest you take a backup before performing delete in prod.. Just in case if anything unexpected happens.

    Regards,
    CRM Developer

If you want to stick to the unmanaged solution then deleting the component manually is the way, it will crate another unmanaged layer on top of that component.

do you mean, I should to move to the managed solutions? as far as I know your plan is not achievable with the unmanged, isnt it?

you need to check the solution s and identify the solution which contains the definition of the component you are trying to remove. Then you need to create an update version of that solution and import it into the production.

    thanks for your answer.

A lot of people complain about the managed solutions... if I would like to keep the unmanged one... do I would to delete entities/fields manually or there is another way to do it?

    thanks

    Hi,

It is always recommended to use managed only solution in production .

Solution layers work in two different way top most / Merge

Option set fields and forms works as merge so you need to check the solution s and identify the solution which contains the definition of the component you are trying to remove. Then you need to create an update version of that solution and import it into the production.
