Once I have this file(AX2012DemoLicenseKeysexp12312015.txt), in which folder must I copy it for it to be active in AX.  I cannot import it from AX using System Administration, I only have Retail Essentials available.

Thanks

    Hi Allain,

I have split the thread as your question was different compared to the original post.

The file needs to be imported in AX. So where you place the file is not important as long as you know where to pick it when you want to import it.

You state you don't have the System administration menu. Retail essentials is a separate product with another license in the same application build of AX2012. I'm not aware if it is or isn't possible to use the system administration menu. Do you need to activate full AX 2012 features or are you looking for a license for Retail Essentials?

Are you able to access the development workspace (AOT)?

    Hi André,

I did find how to import license even from Retail Essentials, however once done, AX could no longer find my company data. All data seems lost.

I fortunately made a snapshot of server prior to doing upgrade.

Here are the steps I did, see if you notice where I went wrong.

Initial install is Dynamics AX 2012 R3

Also installed on same server, Visual Studio 2013

I could not install VS tools unless I upgrade to CU8 (or 9 in my case)

I installed SlipStream update in update folder and ran AX install again.

I had not noticed at that time but I think that after this install, all I had available was Retail Essentials.

Then I installed License this is when I lost all data.  Says it cannot find company(my old company data)

Anything you see here I did wrong

    Thanks in advance

You know I have a feeling that SlipStream update I downloaded was for Retail Essentials and not AxR3, can this be?

I'm downnloading again from LCS, I'll see if this works.

    I'll let you know

    Hi,

I started back from scratch from my last good server snapshot, did a few test on my existing installation of DynamicsAx2012R3 to make sure that all my data and functionalities are all ok.

Then I created an update folder and extracted slipstream update.

Then I ran setup again and checked Visual Studio 2013 tools

    setup ended ok without error.

Now I get errors when running AX. Errors that were not there before my update.

i.e. when I click on Procurement and sourcing/Setup/Procurement and sourcing parameters...I get error " Dynamics AX client has stopped working...please close program"

    any idea?

Things are going from bad to worse.

I seem to be sinking deeper in an endless pit.

Not only am I getting errors, I tried to re-complie using AX now I've lost all information when openning AX.

All I have is MMANDBA+ instead of file in action menu, and blank pages, not able to navigate in any module of AX.

    Question?

Can I re-install AX from scratch without losing data?  Can I connect it to existing data?

Seems to me this is my only option at this time.

    Hi Allain,

You can install AX and later attach another database with business data, but be aware that you could encounter issues due to element specific ID's. So the best would be really having a actual and valid backup of the AX databases. As the license information is also stored in the business data database, I wonder if it will really help you. Do you have a partner which might be able to assist you?

    Hi André,

I finally got it up and running again but not without any pain.

Like I had mentionned, I started back from a  valid server snapshot, then proceeded with each step to upgrade to CU9, again after reinstalling AX, I could not see any data and was stuck in this MMANDB+ environment. Plus I had all sorts of errors trying to access different functions from within AX, like Procurement and Sourcing...

I found a thread in the community

    community.dynamics.com/.../162170

mentionning that I would need to delete some AUC files and delete my windows profile and that I should get my AX running as before.  So after making sure I had a valid backup, I did just that.  I deleted tha AUC file, but that didn't change anything.  So I deleted my windows profile and that did the trick.  Now I have my AX running like before with all my data in its place.  I even installed Contoso test data and that worked well also.

So I guess I'mm all set now.

Except for one thing.  I have difficulty believing that when upgrading AX, all user profiles need to be flushed.  There must be another way of doing this.  Imagine if I had 100's of users, they would all need to delete their profiles after an update.  I do hope that Microsoft has another way to go about this.

I'm lucky that for now this is just a test environment and not a production env.

Thank you for your help André
