Multiple licence plates included in a single work

Hello,

One of our customer is using WHS for transfer order issuing.

We have implemented simple work scenario : only 1 pick/put work with licence plate entry scanned during transfer picking.

We need to have 1 licence plate scanned for each piece transferred. For this we setup in the work template header, maximum quantity = 1.

This is working but if we transfer 10 pieces, the system will create 10 works, and each work with is own licence plate.

However, the customer wants to optimize his process and get a single work created with 10 unique licence plates to pick/put for this work.

Do you know a way to setup this? Multiple licence plates included in a single work, but 1 licence plate for each piece picked ?

Hi Nang,

Yes its possible to pick multiple license plates in one work and then put them on one target license plate.

Its very common to have your inventory scattered on different license plates in the warehouse and as you want to pick a large quantity from large number of license plates AX will create one work to pick all the items.

While you pick all these items from the license plate you can put them all on one target license plate. Do not add the maximum = 1 condition on the work template.

So consider a scenario

I have item with inventory like this

Location License plate quantity

Loc01 LP01 110

Loc01 LP02 110

Create a transfer order for 140 pcs and release the order to warehouse

AX will create one work to pick 140 pcs and as you use mobile device to pick 140 pcs you will have to specify the license plate from which you are picking.

So in the above case user will pick 110 pcs from LP01 and 30 pcs from LP02 and you will put the total 140 pcs on one target license plate.

To achieve this make sure you have "Generate license plate" and "Override license plate during put" checked in mobile device menu item.

Thank you for your answer and explanation.

In fact our scenario is a bit more tricky.

We need to keep the same licence plate for the pick and for the put. Because we need to have a unique licence plate for each piece transferred.

For example, this is our stock with unique licence plate for each piece :

Location Licence plate Quantity

Loc01 LP01 1

Loc01 LP02 1

Loc01 LP03 1

We want to transfer a total qty for 3.

What we are looking for is having a single work created for qty=3, and by executing this single work, be able to pick LP01/put LP01, then pick LP02/put LP02 and finally pick LP03/put LP03.

This process is currently working but we have 3 works created and did not find a solution to make the same in only 1 work.

Do you have any suggestion?

I think that is not really possible. A single Work can have only one LP (the Target LP). You would not be able to pick onto three Target LPs whilst preserving a single Work Id.

Why can you not have three Work Ids; one for each LP?

Its not possible the way you want to pick multiple license plate and put them to same license plate in one work id itself.

Referring to your comment in latest reply"Because we need to have a unique licence plate for each piece transferred."

So do you wants AX to consider unique license plate for each piece picked?

What do you do for this scenario??

On hand inventory like this for one license plate

Location Licence plate Quantity

Loc01 LP01 11

Now you want to pick these 11 pieces, so do you want unique target license plate for each piece or it is fine if its one target license plate for these 11 pcs??

If not then you can try creating one work for each license plate and use cluster picking to see if that optimizes your operation.

Why not setup the menu items as "System directed", so they just pick work one by one, pick/put, pick/put

This way the workers don't really care how many work orders there are (or rather, it's transparent to them)

I know it is an old thread, but we had similar requirement and we used "Allow splitting of work" parameter on menu item. In this case you have 1 work created for total qty, but when you perform actual picking you have new option "Full" and every time you press it the system splits the work for you and allows to keep existing pallet number. Unfortunately you still need to scan a work number every time to proceed with picking of next pallet, but it was not an issue for a customer. but unfortunately there is no way to pick up work with the parent licence plate id :(

Nested license plates as such cannot be used with work / templates. I don't know why Microsoft hasn't done this in the Standard application.

I made a huge development, for a work to take Parent License plate, and in turn pick all the child license plates.

The same has to be also done for:

a. receipt (in case of Transfer),

b. Prod consumption (Production)

c. Sales pick

This works very well for one of my former customers. If you Need more Details, let me know.
