What is the use/consequence of setting tick or no tick in "Use row definition from reporting tree" in the Report Definition?

Thanks.

    Hello Daxer Persson,

The official docu from MS says

The name of the row definition for the reporting unit. The same row definition is used for each unit of the reporting tree. When you generate a report, this row definition is used for each reporting unit. The row definition can include multiple financial dimensions links. If a row definition is specified in the reporting tree, select the Use row definition from reporting tree check box on the Report tab of the report definition. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/unified-operations/dev-itpro/analytics/financial-reporting-tree-definitions

An example can be found here

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

    Hi Ludwig

I didn't understand the original MS text (nor now) and your article is about links to different legal entities.

Could you possibly explain the need for "Use row definition from reporting tree"?

    Thanks.

    Hello Daxer Persson,

I try to express it in my own words.

If you have several companies that use different chart of accounts then you can create one Report that incorporates both Chart of accounts. The mapping is made in the row structure and because you have different financial dimensions i.e. ledger accounts, you link them by selecting them in the reporting tree.

That's the only use case I came across so far.

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

I think, having a row definition pointing to different legal entities, is usefull not only when there are different CoA's in the two Companies, but also if the same row shall point to different accounts in the different legal entities. Eg. for intercompany posting in USMF/DEMF, then e.g. 113300 in USMF and 231300 in DEMF for same row to make sure the amounts are the same during reconciliation.

If having a row definition with such requirement, then Yes, a need of a "Tick in "Use row definition form reporting tree" is required where the reporting tree points to both the legal entity and the related dimension link in the row definition.
