Outbound Marketing - Stop processing certain contacts who are already in a journey

Hoping for a quick and simple solution.
 
A Customer Journey started about 2 weeks ago and there is one more step before it ends. However, we no longer wish to send messages to a certain cohort of people who have already started the journey. 
 
I have edited the Segment but I cannot see the effect on the number of contacts in the journey. It is still the same though it is reduced in the segment.
