I am get this error message "There is nothing to plan." while creating a production order from sale order planning..

Which Reordering Policy you are using? A "demand" (Prod. Order, Sales Order etc.) should exist for the planning lines to be generated.
Also check the "Replenishment System" is set to "Prod. Order".
Sorry guys for delayed reply. Actually we were having an inhouse comsultant, now that the consultant has left the organization it's upto me to look after the NAV till the time a new consultant is hired. coming to the solution I don't know where to find the option that was mentioned in your reply.
I would be grateful if you can guide me (step by step) as I am not an NAV expert.

you are right. I tested by changing from assembly to prod order and it worked.
