How to add an administrator web role user for a Portal

Hi,

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but thought I'd start here.

I've setup a Community Portal in Dynamics 365 and I can open the portal and see the default portal content.  Now I'd like to start updating the content.

From the links I've found, I should be able to edit directly from the portal site if I'm logged in as a user with the administrative web role

But I can't seem to find out how to create/set a user with the administrative web role for the portal site.

I've logged into the portal site with the same account that I'm logged into the Dynamics 365 admin site with which is also listed as the portal site owner.

Yet I don't see the "Edit" options described in this link

Can someone point me to a link describing how setup a user with the administrative web role?

Thanks in advance.

Nick

    Hi,

The portal authentication works on the contacts. You need to create a contact. Once you have a contact, you need to assign the administrator web role. For this, select the form "Portal Contact" on the contact entity where you will find a subgrid of web roles. There you need to add administrator web role.

Also, if this is a new user, you may also want to verify if username field contains data as this will be username to log in to portal. Also, within the contact form, select "..." on top menu and look for Change Password. This you need to do to change the password for this contact.

After all this, you can now login to your portal with that username and password. You should also see the portal in the editable mode now.

If still doesn't work, try clear cache and see if it works cause sometime it takes time to reflect the web role changes.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi partner,

Since you've logged in Portal with your accunt, you just need to assign the administrator web role to your account.

    Here are the steps.

1.Go to Portals->Security->Web roles and find the administrator of your site.

    2. Add your account to the Administrator role.

Click the "Related" button on the form and select "Contact".

Then add your account to the account list.

3.Reload your portal and you will set the Edit options.

    Hi,

Here, you need to add “Administrator” Web Role to CRM Contact. We can login to the MS Portal using CRM Contact not by CRM User. You will get the Username and Password of respective Contact from Portal Contact form as shown below.

    1Web-Role.jpg

Note: “Login Enabled” checkbox must be checked on CRM Contact as highlighted above.

You can change the Password for Portal Contact using “CHANGE PASSWORD” button as highlighted above.

Follow below steps to add “Administrator” Web Role to the CRM Contact.

    1. Navigate to CRM Contact (i.e. to the Contact from which you are going to login to the MS Portal) and go to the Web Roles from navigations as shown below. Here, I am adding “Administrator” web role to “System Administrator” Contact.

    2. Then, click on “ADD EXISTING WEB ROLE” button and add “Administrator” web role to the selected Contact.

Note: If changes are not reflected, restart the portal from “Portal Admin Center” as shown below.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for everyone's help. The issue was that I had to update the contact I was using login to the site and add the administrator web role. After doing that I'm all good - until my next problem :)
