Message box 'combination of document number and posting date has been used more than once'

Hi all, we are using NAV 2016 CU3 web client.  When we use the navigate button to look at details for entries in GL, we are getting a message box that says "combination of document number and posting date has been used more than once".  The message does not stop us from going ahead but we have to click OK first.

Is there a reason or a setup that is causing this message.  It doesn't seem to be consistent and shows up sporadically.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This issue still exists in BC 18.3.27240.27381

BC requires a Journal to balance by Document No, Document Type & Posting date.  We have the situation where we need to enter multiple lines to various customers but only want 1 entry posted to the Bank Module.  Therefore they must have the same Document No, Document Type & Posting date.  It would be nice if Microsoft allowed us to turn this warning off.

    Hello,

I believe it is a kind of advice message. It educates, that there is more than one entry of the unique combination 'document number and posting date'.  I have experienced - for example - that using the menu item 'Reverse Transaction' in the Customer Ledger will result in a reverse entry with the same posting date and document number as the original entry.  That is standard functionality, though will create more than one entry with the unique combination 'document number and posting date'. Hence this is not an error itself, just an advice.

    Have fun,

    Thomas

    Hi,

This message is shown when a number is used by several documents.

For example, when you use the same number for a customer and vendor invoice.

Or as described by Suresh. When you use the "external document number" in different documents.

It is not critical, but I recommend to have unique numbers for each document in NAV.

I have seen this message earlier and I usually see this when you use the same External Document No. multiple times. Are you having this issue only on Web Client ?
