Hello, a barcode reader works like any input device. If you have NAV open on a computer and you have selected the Item No. field then if you scan a barcode with any barcode reader then the value will appear in the field.
However, if you're looking for a solution not tied to a computer then you might consider a mobile computer such as the following:

And you might need some third party software for warehousing such as the following:
As the experts suggested earlier, you can create the Barcode from any given text or code but to achieve the functionality 'Scan the barcode and Open the specific record in NAV' needs customization. So, refer the following link for much insights.
Hi, could you give a tip how to do this? i am new to NAV. Thank you so much.
what i want to do is that when i scan the barcodes, then the correspondent information window or table pops up right away in NAV. Do you think we can do this in NAV? just like when i scan the inventory item then item window pops up right away .

Hello,
Yes you can use Excel with a barcode font and print to a sheet of labels to make this happen.
Sure... you can easily print barcodes with NAV just be creating a report (for example with the Bin code) and using a barcode font.
It's quite common to print barcodes from NAV.
Hi Shailmo
the question is what do you do with it after the barcode is printed? If your software allows scanning it to identify Bins, then you just copy-paste the list of bins to MS Word, apply barcode font to it (for example, '3 of 9') and print it out.
