When emails are sent back and forth between recipients quickly dynamics does not insert them into the case timeline in order

Example below where I tested out 5 fast emails between two people.  They are inserted completely out of order. 1, 4, 3, 2, 5.

    Hi,

Emails on Timeline is sorted based on Modified on field. And as per your screenshot I see it is sorted correctly based on Modified on field.

If you want to sort it based on some field value then you will have to open form editor and make the modification.

    Hi JMAtoms,

As Bipin mentioned, the timeline is sort by modified on field by default.

If you can see which field has changed, you can use auditing function for entity (Email as example).

1.Go Settings > Customization > Customize the system > Entities.

    pastedimage1604905921953v2.png

2.Open email form, switch to Related tab to select Audit History.

3.sort timeline by created on field.

Leah, thank you for the information.  The link provided is for the account timeline but I assumed it would be the same for the Case entity as well.  I followed the detailed instructions from the link. It does indeed change the order of the, but they are still not in chronological order:

Here is my config of the case entity timeline:

    Hi JMAtoms,

From your screenshot, I notice that you select ‘Email card form’.

I suggest that you can create a new card form for email and select it in the timeline control to try again.

Hi Leah, thanks for following up.  I forgot to include in my previous post that I did indeed follow the instrcutions to make a new email card and applied that to the email item on the timeline on the Case entity form:

Here are is the email card which matches from the link provided:

After saving and publishing, they're still out of order.

    Hi JMAtoms,

The five emails are the same time in the page, he difference is only a few seconds. but we can’t display the time with seconds in the crm, so it is possible they that their actual creation time order is what is shown in the figure.

In order to verify that your settings are correct, you can create 5 more emails, but try to give them distinct time gaps, preferably different minutes.

Or you can check the seconds of created on field value of these five emails.

If you have no ways to check seconds in created on field, I suggest that you can use CRM REST Builder

    Download page: https://github.com/jlattimer/CRMRESTBuilder

Install it and set it as following screenshot:

     pastedimage1605776861033v1.png

Now, you can see seconds of created on field .

    Leah Ju
