We have recently started using HoloLens devices in our environment and still in the initial phase of how we should manage them. We are using Intune as a MDM solution to manage these devices, however one of our user when tried to login Dynamics 365 guides (using his Azure AD account) he was getting error message as "Guides isn’t set up correctly, or you may not have permission to access it. Contact your administrator or refer to the Guides documentation". We assigned Dynamics 365 guides license to user and after that when he tried to login he is now getting message as "Oops, you don't have permission to open this app. Contact your Dynamics 365 administrator to get the necessary permissions".
Is there anything we are missing here apart from licensing ? In one of the forum I read about assigning "Author" or "Operator" role but when we login to Power platform admin center using admin account and look into default environment we do not see any such roles available.
Please help, as I am sure we are missing some important steps or any prerequisite.
Thank you for your help with your answer!
My issue that caused "Oops, you don't have permission to open this app." was that I had not checked "Dynamics 365 Guides App Access" even though I had checked "Basic User" and "Dynamics 365 Guides Operator" I had just forgot to also check the "App Access" entry and that fixed it.
Thanks again!
Hi Ryan,
Issue is resolved now. All the configuration done by us was correct but very silly mistake done by user was he was selecting wrong environment (Instance) after login :) . I got to know this when I had requested them to send me video recording of issue failure. Thank you for your all suggestions on this topic.
Hi Suraj
The account that you login in to Guides with needs to be the account that has the Guides license assigned (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/add-users#assign-a-dynamics-365-guides-license-to-an-existing-user) and ensure that the same user has the appropriate security role assigned as well (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/assign-role).
You also need to setup the Guides 'backend' by creating a Dataverse environment and installing the 'solution': https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dynamics365/mixed-reality/guides/setup-step-two

Hey Ryan,
May I know if different sign in credentials are required ?
For e.g. we are using corporate account as suraj.malusare@xyz.com to sign in to guides app as same account is synched with Azure AD.
Hi Bruna,
As suggested, we tried to add user again but still login issue persist.
I have question, does Dynamics 365 needs different sign in credentials ?
We are using our corporate credentials to sign in to Guides app, our corporate credentials are synched to Azure AD.
Hi Suraj,
Sometimes adding the user again, even if this user already shows on the list of users, re-triggers some processes that can fix the user access to the default environment.
If you have already tried to add user again by following the documentation I posted above, and it's still not working, then a support ticket will give us enough info to continue investigation.
Thanks Ryan for all your inputs. We will raise a support ticket soon.
Hello Bruna,
We have all users already added in the organizations default environment. So how do you want me to proceed here ?
Hi Suraj,
One thing you can try is to manually add the user to the environment by following these steps: docs.microsoft.com/.../add-users-to-environment
Ok, thank you for checking.
Can you please create a support ticket and so we can investigate.
