ReportReport
Posted on by

Step 1 -

I have configured Power BI in Dynamics 365. (i have referred below link)

docs.microsoft.com/.../configure-power-bi-integration

Step 2 -

I can see power BI solutions available in LCS as documented by Microsoft (Pls see below link for reference)

docs.microsoft.com/.../power-bi-home-page

Step 3 -

Now i want to access ready made reports provided by Microsoft in LCS (Shared Asset Library)

I am unable to find any help on how i will be able to access these reports (mentioned in above link) and where in D 365 user can view these reports.

* Also, i have configured power BI with Dynamics 365 using global administrator ID in client environment. Now how Users will be able to view these reports in their environment. Do i have to share these reports with users (if yes then how) or i have to configure same steps mentioned above for all users who wants to access the reports.

Please help as i am stuck at Step 2 and unable to find any solid documentation on the further proceeding.
Thanks in advance.

in production environment, these reports are mostly in workspaces and you would need to refresh entity store

for non-production environment, one needs to configure PowerBi link with D365FO

In D365 you have two types of PowerBI reports

1- Embedded PowerBI Report (you can find it under workspace dashboard > Analytics) and you don't need to configure it on UAT and PROD as it will work automatically

2- Integrated powerBI Reports (This type need the configuration you did in step 1)

    - after you configure the PowerBI.com configuration you need to go to System administrator > Setup > Deploy powerBI files

    - It will ask you for Authorization and you need to make sure that the user you are using in D365fo have Project owner role in LCS project for this environment then authorize

    - after you authorize it will show you list of all powerbi reports in LCS asset library

    - Select all or the reports you want to deploy and from the top menu select deploy powerBI files

Now you have to refresh the Entity stores to update the data warehouse database (the database that powerbi reports fetch data from)

    - From System administration > Setup > Entity store

    - If you have the old view you can select all and press refresh from the top menu this will add all entities to the Batch job to sync data with DW database

    - If you have the new view you can follow this link docs.microsoft.com/.../automated-entity-store-refresh

After refreshing the Entity store and the job finish executing you can see report data and you can follow this document docs.microsoft.com/.../pin-power-bi-reports to add report from report catalog to the workspace.

    Hello Avasthi,

The first two steps that you mentioned is correct. To answer step number 3 follow the steps mentioned below:
    1. You need to download the reports (.pbix files) from the Shared Asset Library.
    2. To access these reports, first upload the .pbix files to the asset library associated with your LCS project under the PowerBI section. You will have access the reports once you have entered the Application Key in the PowerBi.com report configuration available under System Administration in D365 FO.

LCS Project Id -> Power BI report model

    3. Next step, you need to refresh the LCS project ID under System Administration -> System Parameters screen. Once you refresh the reports, you will see the .pbix files uploaded into the Asset library under the Deploy PowerBI files screen in the System Administration section. Since you are a global administrator, you should be able to deploy all the reports after selecting all the reports.
