AX Client Performance Issues

(0) ShareShare

We are having strange performance issues during testing where the system will appear to be generally slow at one time of day and then improve at others.  We suspect this is something to do with the AX Client, its Caching and network traffic.  The system is lightly loaded and we aren't seeing large variations in server loads at these different times.  So my question is, has anyone else seen this? Any clues as to how we can fix it? Any advice on how AX Client caching really works and what all the AUC files are.

Sorry its so vague, but this is about all we have to go on.  We have a mixture of locally installed clients and Citrix for our high latency users, both see this issue, sometimes at different times.

    Hi Peter,

We have seen similar behavior before. Please check which number sequences are set to be continuous. Is this really needed for all?

Continuous number sequences are cleaned up standard every 24 hours on the client. This could be your issue. You can disable the continuous tick when it is allowed (not for voucher and invoice numbers)

Disable the automatic clean up for the remaining number sequences and  put a cleanup task of the number sequence to run in batch at least once a day.

    Hi Peter

Which version of AX are you running and which kernel build do you have?

    Hi Peter

You might want to consider upgrading to a more recent kernel. I ran into a performance issue recently which was solved by an updated kernel. The kernel that I had wasn't using the client side cache correctly and this was causing significant problems for the whole of AX. If you pick up the latest kernel you'll also get the benefit of having the AXBUILD parallel compiler.

    Hi Peter,

the AX Client cache creates and uses some local files for the user (AXC files).

Bare in mind that if your users are using the AX client deployed through Citrix or Remote desktop and these sits in a farm (more that one server) your user AX client will try to use the local cache every time and if not existing it'll try to create it.

You can avoid these problem using Roaming profiles (where the AppData folder will be shared and the cache files won't be re-created each time)

    Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    Luca Pellegrini
