Realized and Unrealized GL account postings

Hi,

We have been using Microsoft Dynamics NAV for several years now, but have never used the multi currency feature until we put our Canadian Subsidiary onto our system.  I am looking to see if there are any companies out there that have successfully used the realized and unrealized gains/losses posting accounts in NAV.

Thanks,

Julie

I will put all the stuff in simple way.

Example : I have my exchange rate setup in these manner

Starting date 01/01/01        1USD = 2 INR (LCy) . I create and post an invoice to customer in USD with amount, 100 which means the balance LCy(here INR) is 200 now. Now my next rate in the setup is mentioned like this

01/04/01          1USD = 1.8 INR . Now somewhere after this date i run the batch job in Financials Adjust Exchange Rates system will adjust balance LCy on customer  as 180 balancing this with an entry in unrealized loss(of amount 20). Because as per current scenario i am supposed to receive less than original invoice amount. This will happen when the entries in customer  ledger is open. The same applies for other ledger as well i.e. vendor and bank. You will have to specify while running the batch job to adjust these ledgers(means u will to check a boolean).

Otherwise if i would have received the amount with current rates (without running this job)  it would have posted the entry in realized loss.

If i run the batch job and after that i receive the payment then system will first reverse the entry posted in unrealized loss and then post a total amount (loss or gain) in realized loss account. Hope this would have given you some idea about how it works. There are few more scenarios which may come into picture i.e. closure of year and  additional reporting currency.

    Hi Julie,

what would you like to know about this issue? For me it is important to know which Navisionversion you use, because there are some differences between them.
