Data import updates existing values instead of creating new

Hello everyone,

I noticed some strange and fatal bug while importing data to dynamics 365. When I import contacts from excell system updates existing records that has nothing in common with the new ones. I tried importing data with and without duplicate detection but it still updates. How can it be fixed or turned. This bug is really stopping and it ruins data and imports. Help please

Best regards,

Bohdan

    Hi Bohdan,

The excel you used to import data is export from dynamics 365.

If so, once you’ve opened the file for editing, you’ll see that columns A, B, and C are hidden. These contain pertinent data about existing records, so if you modify all data that shown in the excel, it will update records not create new records.

    After importing the modified excel:

So you need go Settings > Data Management > Templates for data import to create blank excel template for entity that you need, download it and fill data,

then click Imports to import it.

Also, you can try to use the new feature ‘Edit data in Excel’ to create and update records in Dynamics 365 CRM.
