How to apply a cash receipt to an invoice that has already been paid?

We received a payment from our customer for an invoice that they had already paid.  How do we apply this payment in GP, since the invoice is not longer open?  The customer would like to later use this overpayment toward an invoice that will be created next month.  How can we apply this cash now, so the AR for this customer will show a negative balance?

    Hi,

You can just book the cash receipts and leave applying to any invoice.  So it will be show as receipt not applied which is credit on your customer.

    Hi,

Just enter and post the cash receipt and don't click on the Apply button. Later, when there is an invoice they want to use it on, select Sales | Transactions | Apply Sales Documents and apply the overpayment to the invoice.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
