Server and DB names in PROD and UAT env for BI reports

(0) ShareShare
ReportReport
Posted on by

Team,

I have developed a customized BI report in DEV box using SQL Server and connecting to AXDW with direct query approach.

In dev box -

(Given server name as . and DB name as AXDW while connecting to SQL server in BI file.)

Further, I add the BI file to Asset library and click on deploy all BI files in UAT and PROD environment.

How will the server and DB connections change accordingly in UAT and PROD environments?

Do we have to make any settings?

Quick help will be appreciated!

Thanks!

"Directly connecting to the production database is not possible."

    I agree.

Thus I create a BI report in DEV using entity store and connecting via AXDW.

When we migrate it to UAT and PROD, we first store the BI file in Asset Library.

Further when we deploy BI files through D365 environment from system administration -> powerbi.com configuration, will it automatically take the UAT / PROD data and show the results?

There are many ways to use BI in Prod, but they all basically use entities (or aggregate measures etc.). If you wrote your report using sql tables, you cannot use it in prod. (At least there is no method that I know of, of course you can get a copy of the prod, but there is no structure that can be used for reporting purposes)

In fact, if you look carefully at the links I share, they will guide you on how to use them.

Edit: I didn't see the data entity part in your replay

Sorry, I was reading from the phone and I just realized that you are using a data entity.
