Hi,

I am using Dynamics AX 2012 Enterprise Portal (EP 2013), What is CAL scenario for users accessing some App on EP portal. (...like Expense Reimbursement App).

If say, ...100 users are using AX based sharepoint Portal, ..... then what is CAL scene...here.

    Hi Meter,

Since you mentioning EP2013, then we are looking at AX2012 R2 here.

There are 4 types of user CALs in Dynamics AX 2012 R2 - Enterprise, Functional, Task, and Self Serve. The number of CALs needed is related to who these users are and what they do.

    e.g.

    - External users (customers/vendors) don't need CALs to access EP.

    - If all these 100 users are only entering personal HR information, then they can all be using Self server CAL, which is pretty cheap.

To get a decent estimation, you will need to define what these 100 users would do; then contact a vendor or Microsoft to get their assessment on how many CALs of each type is needed.

You can refer to this guide for more information on AX2012 R2 licensing:

    Hi Dominic,

thank you for your answer. I just want to add a question. You are saying, that you have to focus on AX 2012 R2 CALs when speaking of Enterprise Portal 2013. So my question is: Do I have to license EP2013 too or is it included in the AX 2012 R2 CAL? I thought you need also a complete licensed SharePoint environment.

    best regards

    Hi Viktor,

You don't need a separate license for Enterprise Portal, think of it as a module in AX. However, you might need a license for the SharePoint software which host the EP, depending of which version of SharePoint you use. (blog.blksthl.com/.../sharepoint-2013-feature-comparison-chart-all-editions)

Also, if you are hosting Enterprise Portal in a stand alone server, Windows Server license will be needed.
