Account Structure Configuration disallow BU

(0) ShareShare

1.  Is there a way to NOT allow a business unit for the ledger account structure.  It appears all I can see is to allow.  For example, if we want all the business units to be able to post, EXCEPT Admin for example.  How would we do this?  Or is there a better way to not allow postings to a business unit?

2.  How can we hide a business unit (fin dim) from a drop down on AP journal, Po, general project setup, etc.

Thanks for your help

To exclude ANY one dimension value you just create rules for all the existing values EXCEPT for the value you want to exclude.

For example, if your values have codes of 01-99, and you want to exclude 46, you will create rule of 01..45, 47..99

Thanks, I get that.. however that is not my question :)  When there are many different combinations (could be 100) that would have to be created, when I could have one filter that says DO NOT ALLOW, Admin BU and the requirement be completed.  :) I appreciate other responses as well.  Thanks!

well, it IS possible in Dynamics to dig yourself into a configuration hole (paint yourself into a corner, choose your metaphor), where your configuration is so complicated, any future maintenance becomes a massive pain, as you see now.

The question to ask is how come you have 100 different rule lines in 1 account structure?

Maybe something can be done to simplify that?

You can disable the dimension value globally but that would affect ALL account structures, not just that one., but you can't disable a dimension on a rule without modifying the rule (which sounds like what you are asking to do).

Thank you for your response.  Every company has multiple business reasons for their setup.  Yes, they can indeed be separated into multiple configurations, but regardless they will still need to be setup the same way.  That was not my question, but to expand on reasonings, some clients like to have the flexibility to share these fin dim BUs across multiple legal entities.  if you have Admin, HR, etc.  I agree to avoid making the structure too complicated to maintain, which is why we are trying to do the opposite. :) This way each time a BU is added, it will be automatically in the structure and shared. Perhaps there only be 50 BUs or so to setup (which is not a problem to do), but you would think the functionality would exist to NOT include a BU as well.

It still seems the original questions have not yet been answered though. :) Disabling a structure would not make sense because we want to keep it, not disable it.  It appears to me it is just not possible, so this leads me to my 2nd question.

    2.  How can we hide a business unit (fin dim) from a drop down on AP journal, Gl Journal, Po, general project setup, etc.  Or how can we only display the one business unit we want to see for the legal entity without showing all the others.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi cvandy23,

For GL postings you can make use of the journal setup functionalities (posting restrictions and Journal Control).

Those functionalities won't help for other Transactions, such as POs, SOs, etc. To get also a restriction there, you will need to establish XDS rules and probably need the help of a developer for realizing that.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig

Financial dimensions are by default available for sharing across legal entities but only available in a legal entity if part of an account structure.

Within an account structure the segments represent shared dimensions accounts and through Advanced rules on the account structure you can add rules with further dimensions per main account.

Omitting specific values for a BU can be done, as Zvika says, making intervals possibly specific to main accounts in hte account structure. It's also possible to - on the Financial dimension itself - to go to values and set a specific value (e.g. BU46) to stopped in one or more legal entities.

Note that multiple account structures can be added into one legal entity.

NB: You can't make a "negation setup".

Thank you all for your feedback.  #1: Not possible in this exact way.  #2: It appears the financial dimensions will remain in the drop down list.  Microsoft has confirmed it is not possible to remove them.  Since they are shared, they will remain.   However, in D365 for Finance and Operations, this was taken into consideration and you can filter the list.  That will be great in the new version.  Thank you.
