Language Changing Automatically in User Personalization - Annoying Problem

(0) ShareShare

Posted on by

I hope someone can help with this very annoying issue. For only one user, their language always changes from Language ID 1033 (en-US) to 3018 (en-AU) in User Personalization table. I change it back to English (US), but without any reason that I can understand, it is somehow changed back to English (Australian).

Here is all info:

  • Microsoft Dynamics NAV cumulative update 2
  • User is logging in using Accounting Manager profile
  • Australian database.

Please help if you can. It is more than a nuisance, but it does make the system less user friendly, as user is American and isn't familiar with certain Australian terminology.

    Hello,

The language in the user personalization table changes itself when the user actually changes the language he wishes to see the application in.

This could mean several things but two specially come to mind:

.- The user changes the language (unlikely :)).

.- The client installation on that user is not correct and when the application opens it automatically changes itself to the language it can find locally (in this case Australian). Hence changing the language in the user personalization table.

Thank you José. How could I find out which language is installed locally? All users have same client installed, but only one user has a problem.

If the user opens the client and changes the language, what options does he/she see?  Are both en-us and en-au in there? If so, what happens when he manually changes the language to en-us? Does the application load without problems?

Using the Windows client, the application always loads with no problem. If I change the language in user personalization to English, the next time the client will open in en-US. As far as seeing options, I am not clear what you mean by that. I also do not know how a user could manually change the language in Windows client to en_US. I only make the change in user personalization.

The user can choose the language he wants to see NAV in.

That is done by clicking the little downward arrow on the left upper corner and selecting "Choose language".

Once that option is selected a pop up window will appear selecting the languages. What languages does the user see there?

I have asked the user, waiting for their response. I am guessing that she would see English (United States) and English (Australia) as the two options.

    Hello José

I have the same issue happening here. I have been observing the User Personalization table, and this is what happens:

    * User logs in, and the language is wrong (1035 Finnish in my case)

    * User changes the language, client restarts, user personalization language changes to 1033 EN-US as expected, and everything seems to be all right

    * User logs out, language stays as 1033

    * User logs back in and the language changes to 1035 Finnish when the blue splash screen appears.

Default user language is defined as 1033, so I cannot understand why the client keeps changing the language for this user. Other users _that are using the same terminal server_ are not affected, which is quite strange to me.

What do you mean by "client installation on that user is nt correct" ?

    Que tengas una buena semana,

    Urpo

Oh boy, do I feel embarassed now.

I decided to change the user's shortcut to force 1033 language, and guess what I found from the existing shortcut?

Yes, there was a parameter -language:1035

    best regards, Urpo
