Production - Live Company copy to Sandbox - Test Company

I have two environments in BC - a Production Environment and a Sandbox environment.

In my Production environment I have a several companies.  In Dynamics GP I use to be able to backup a company and then restore it over a test company.  I am looking to do the same thing in BC but I can't figure out how to take a company within my Production Environment and create a Test company with that data in the Sandbox environment.  I have some companies already in the Sandbox that I don't want to overwrite.

Can anymore suggest how I can do this?

Thanks,

    Hi John,

Just to clarify, in Business Central you cannot directly copy a single company from Production into the Sandbox.

The workaround for you is to Copy the Production Environment into a new Sandbox Environment (which will copy all the Companies in the Production environment along with the data into the Sandbox).

Note: Since you mentioned that you do not want to overwrite your existing Sandbox environment, make sure you haven’t exceeded your available Sandbox limit. By default, each tenant includes one Production and three Sandbox environments. If all Sandbox environments are already in use, you’ll need to either overwrite an existing one or purchase an additional Sandbox environment.

Having said that, if you simply want to copy your entire Production environment into a new Sandbox, you can do this via the Admin Center:

    • Go to the Admin Center (click the gear icon in the top right corner → Admin Center).

    • Open your Production environment.

    • Click on Copy.

    • Choose the target name and type (Sandbox), and confirm.

If you do not want to copy the whole environment, you can use the configuration packages to export and import data for a specific company.

If this helps clarify the options, do mark it as verified.

This is not possible in BC SaaS. It used to be possible back in NAV, which had the same copy company function that you're referring to in GP. But now in BC you can only copy entire environments. In BC you can have up to 3 sandbox environments, so you can copy the production environment into a 2nd sandbox, and leave the existing sandbox unchanged.

As of now, you can only copy the entire environment, and cannot move a single company to another environment. You can submit this idea to Microsoft.
