Question about NAV capabilities

Hi:

My company is a software development company and we specialize mostly in C# and dot net development. We have been getting inquiries from some small companies who want to implement a system to handle the manufacturing, MRP and financial operations. They however because of their size cannot afford dynamics AX.

My question is this....Can Dynamics NAV handle manufacturing, MRP and other manufacturing requirements for a small company? Can we do software development for the NAV environment and if so what is the programming language for NAV?. And finally, where can I find pricing information for NAV and can it be on premise rather than on Azure?

    Hi Steve,

    To work towards a Microsoft Dynamics Development , you will require 

    1) Functional knowledge of the software plus C/AL programming language

    2)License in the development environment  , you can get the license from partners of Microsoft or if you are a partner then from Microsoft.

    3) You can customize the software to meet the business requirements of the company in addition to the modules present. Financial management, purchase , warehouse , Inventory Human resource and you can develop Asset maintenance module , etc but you will require more years of  experience and skills in the developing Dynamics softwares.

    Thank you for looking into Dynamics NAV.

    MRP & Manufacturing
    The simple answer is yes, Dynamics NAV can satisfy manufacturing requirements. I think you will need more information about how the planning works, I can suggest you to look at this article on MSDN: How to: Run MPS and MRP -here you will see options and parameters related to the planning. I would also suggest you to consult with a Microsoft Partner, because there are many key elements (such as item setup, bill of material, costing) that you need consider during the implementation. I would also recommend you to check the reports that are available for this area. 

    Customisations

    NAV is using a language called C/AL: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C/AL and you can perform customisations but your level of access is dependent on your license. I would also like to mention the for reporting NAV is using RDLC reporting and you can also you use Word report layouts.

    On-Premise
