Just recently users have noticed that when they open Sales Transaction entry and begin a new Order, the system is not letting them click next to get to the next default order number. Is there a setting that needs to be looked at? Thanks.

Are the users getting an error message box of any kind?
To quote you, "clicking next", is this a button named "next" or the VCR style buttons at the bottom of the form?
If its a button of some kind, "clicking next" is not native functionality of GP, have you a modification to GP that has added this functionality? If this is a modification, then you need to contact whoever has written that modification.
For native functionality reset the next numbers in the sop numbers setup window as shown below:
