Dynamics CRM Online: Quote to SalesOrder clone N:N relation

Case

We have an entity called EANcode which has a N:N relation with Quote and SalesOrder. When a potential customer signs a Quote we will create a Sales Order based on its quote. Is it possible to add the related "EANcodes", which are connected to the quote, to the new Sales Order without programming?

I thought there was a solution in msdyncmrworkflootools with clone childs but I couldn't figure it out.

    Hi Geert,

Unfortunately you cannot run workflows on the N:N relationship record. So you cannot use distributed workflows.

The only way to solve this is custom coding, like a custom workflow activity or plugin.

    Hi Sander,

Thnx for your quick reply. It isn't possible with the msdyncmrWorkflowtools plugin?

    Hi Geert,

No, unfortunately this is not possible using the existing workflow extensions.

You could also consider creating a new entity to store the EANcode records details for quotes/orders which relates to both quote and Salesorder. This will provide you more options like cloning records or just filling the relationship to the Salesorder on the existing records.

The downside is usability for entering the EANcodes on the Quote, as your sales people will have to create new records for each EANcode and cannot use the functionality to add multiple EANcodes in one time.

    Cheers, Sander.

    Hello Geert,

In the next release of my Workflow Toolkit I will have "Distribute Action" step that will allow distribution of actions - the same way as it was possible for On-Demand workflows so you will have possibility to implement your requirement without custom coding. I expect it to be available middle of March.

Hi Andrew, that's great. Using an action will provide a lot of flexibility.

So it will also work with the CRM out-of-box multiple-to-multiple relationships?

    Hi Andrew,

That sounds great! Where can I get an update about your Workflow Toolkit?

    Kind regards,

    Geert
