Expose Rest WCF Service in Dynamic Ax 2012 R3 Version

Hi All,

As i am new on dynamic ax. I am working on a task where i need to expose my wcf service as rest. We have already an existing dynamic ax setup. We want to transform our existing traditional web service (soap based) to rest.

please suggest if there is possibility for this functionality.

You'll have to create a separate REST service which will call SOAP services exposed by AX.

You can either develop it by yourself, or use an existing service that can help with that (such as Azure API Management: Import a SOAP API and convert to REST).

Thanks for your Reply Martin.

So what i understood by your response, we need to create a separate rest service that will consumed by Dynamic Ax. We need to share the rest web service details with Client.

So the process would be as follows.

Client-> Request Send to Rest WCF Service -> Rest WCF Service will hit the Soap Web Service hosted on Dynamic Ax-> Then Dynamic Ax Soap service respond back to Rest WCF service.

Please confirm if this is the correct understanding.

Your process description is correct.

Just the statement that "the rest service that will consumed by Dynamic Ax" is wrong. AX doesn't consume the REST service; all it does is exposing the SOAP service (which is consumed by the REST service).

By the way, is there any reason why you say "Rest WCF service"? Do you require WCF for some reason? If not, don't unnecessarily limit yourself to WCF.

Thanks Martin,

Actually we are doing a test project. We want to check the rest implementation in dynamic ax. There is no restrictions for wcf implementation. It could be anything like rest api as well.
