Is it possible to calculate a price based on a earlier date and using the prices of that earlier moment?

If you are talking about sales prices then it is possible as prices captured from sales prices table and it works based on start date and end date
Purchase prices at invoice-based. If you would like to re-valuate the cost of the item that has been already purchased, you can use item revaluation journals for that purpose (msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh168241(v=nav.90).aspx)

When you talk about item its always suggest you the average cost , you can change the cost as you want when you make orders
Its depend on how you set the parameters on item card
Eg : method : FIFO / LIFO
if you wanna go to make earlier data price by standard , you need to backdate and do the entry
