Hello Team,
would like to ask about posting type - Project invoice revenue. what i know is this is driven by project category of the item it invoiced.
but as a new business requirement - can we set this up to follow customer group instead?

If you assign each customer group a unique sales tax group then you can achieve what you want.
What I would not recommend is modifying this posting logic / configuration form as it affects a lot of processes and the risk that you overlook something is high.

Short answer is: Not possible to setup an invoice revenue account per customer on project posting. the options are clear, you can setup an account per funding source or per project group but nothing else.
Other option to get a revenue breakdown per customer could be the use of a financial dimension (customer fin dimension) so you can run a report based on that, this option is far easier to maintain in the long run and no need of any customization.
