Sales Tax/Use Tax on Purchases

Hi Everyone,

I am working on configuring sales tax and use tax for purchasing. I figured out how to default the item sales tax group on the item but is there a way to default the sales tax group? Ideally, I would like to be able to default this by delivery address or something similar. Also, is there a way for the system to check and see if sales tax has been charged and if not use the Use Tax group? Thanks in advance for your help, you guys are the best!!

Also you can insure that tax group is mandatory ,

Accounts payable/Setup/Accounts payable Parameter/General/Mandatory Tax Group

The Item sales tax group copies from the Released product, and the Sales tax group copies from the Vendor. If you setup the Sales tax group on the vendor, it should copy to the Purchase order. There is also a place for Sales tax group on the alternate addresses form, exactly as you wondered.

Whether sales or use tax is applied results from your sales tax codes intersecting from your Sales tax group and Item sales tax group. It will not automatically post a Use tax in the absence of Sales tax because there are cases where neither applies.
