Upgrade NAV 5.0 to Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2009

Hello Everyone,

We are upgrading our customer database from NAV 5.0 to NAV 2009. But as we run the Upgrade - Old version, Form 104001, the system prompts, "TableData 243 does not exist". We check all our NAV version here (NAV 5.0, NAV 2009, NAV 2009 R2, NAV 2013, NAV 2013 R2) but we cannot find the said table.

What version of NAV does this table exist? What procedure do we need to follow in order to attain our goal (upgrade database)?

Thank you very much,

Riza

    Hey Riza,

I think you are missing something.

From NAV 5 TO NAV 6 / 6SP1 / 6 R2 there is no data migration required, only technical merging need to be done.

The Data Migration Upgrade Tool is available from NAV 3.7 or 4.3 to NAV 2009.

If you are using NAV 5.0 you need to follow these steps -

    1. Do Technical Merging. (Object Merging)

    2. Open the Client Database in Version 2009 / 2009 SP1 / 2009 R2.

    3. Convert the Database.

    4. Delete all objects except tables.

    5. Import & replace New Merged Objects Completed in Step 1.

Steps are listed in the NAV 2009 / NAV 2009 SP1 / NAV 2009 R2 DVD at below location -

UpgradeToolKit\Documents\Upgrade Quickguides Upgrade Quick Guide 500_2009.doc

Let me know if any doubts.

    Hello Saurav,

What do you mean by Do Technical Merging? How can we do that?

    Thanks,

    Riza

    Hello Riza,

Technical Merging Means taking the customization part to Newer Version from Old Version, in your Case From Version 5 to Version 2009.

    How we do that?

We compare Objects of NAV 5 Standard Cronus (Local Version) with Customer Version NAV 5 + Customization using a text compare tool or Developer toolkit.

The Gaps that we find is the customization that we have done for customer. We merge that customization into our target Version (in your case in NAV 2009 SP1/R2 Cronus DB).

Once Completed the Object Set is Ready in target version - TECHNICAL MERGING IS COMPLETED.

Let me know if any doubts.

    Hello Saurav,

Thanks for the details. In that case, does it mean we need to have NAV 5.0 in our test machine in order to compare the objects (NAV 5.0 versus NAV 9.0)? Our problem, we don't have 5.0 left in our resources. We tried to look an installer over the internet/google but we only found client setup. Application/Database setup is missing.

Also, for the development toolkit, we only have dataconversion 370 & 400. Is it okay if we use the 400 instead of 500 (for NAV 5.0)?

    Thank you for your assistance.

    Regards,

    Riza

    Hello Sauruv,

We cannot completed the data merging upon importation of upgrade toolkit. An error occur, 5930 does not exist. But once we click, replace all, it is working. How can we do the data merging?

    Thanks,

    RIza

    Hello Riza,

Let me clear some points -

    a) Data migration and Technical Merging are two Different Parts.

First you Do Technical Merging of Objects where you bring Changes done on customer database to the New Version.

Once Completed You Move to Data Migration.

In Your case no need of the data Migration as there is no migration tool provided by Microsoft and below are the steps that you need to take for Upgrade After Technical Merging of Objects into NAV 2009.

    1. Open the Customer Database with Data in NAV 2009 / SP1/ R2.

    2. It will ask for Conversion, select OK and Convert the Database.

    3. Once Converted, Delete All Objects Except Tables.

    4. Import all Objects from the Database that have been used for Technical Merging.

    5. Select Replace all and You are good to Go.

    Hope it helps.

    Hello Saurav,

Thanks for the response. We can open the client database in NAV 6.0. There's no prompt message for upgrade database. So it means, it is already upgraded? So the next step is to upgrade NAV 2009 to NAV 2013?

    Thanks,

    Riza
