Organizational Hierarchy Query

ReportReport
Posted on by

Hi Talent users,

We've created a list of operating units with the operating unit type of Department:

DAT-Company-issue.jpg

Each time we create a new department, we cannot seem to set the legal entity / company. Is there a way to:

  1. Manually Update this company record?
  2. Bulk Update department records with a new company?

Another question; that same company field on the department is not exposed to the common data service, meaning I cannot get the hierarchical structure of legal entity --> Business Units --> Cost Centers --> Departments. How do we expose system fields to the common data service?

I need to build a Power BI report to showcase this structure.

Thanks

Barry Francis

    Hi Nicu,

    1. Its seen in the Department entity under the record info --> Show all fields area.

    2. We have, company is not a field that is exposed.

    3. Its not a custom field.

Unfortunately the CDS cannot solve this issue as the hierarchical structure is under the OMOrganizationHierarchyPublishedStaging table from a reporting stand point. We've had to use the DMF to resolve all our reporting requirements and then use the organizational hierarchy builder to manually make the connections.

    Hi Nicu,

    1. The screenshot came from the Department entity from the Record Info page (Show All fields)

    2. We have, this field is not exposed.

    3. The company lookup is not a custom field, its a lookup to the legal entity (in this case, the primary/default legal entity)

Unfortunately the CDS cannot work here as the hierarchical structure is managed in the OMOrganizationHierarchyPublishedStaging table and not from the department and legal entity tables (doesn't have the lookups to the legal entity, its a stand-alone entity).

For this reason we've had to use the DMF option to solve the reporting issue and the Organizational Hierarchy builder to manually build the hierarchy structure.

    Hi Barry,

    1. could you please tell me where did take this screenshot? I'm not able to find the Autosummary thing... and Autolookup. Could you please print the whole webpage?

    2. Have you tried using excel and the Excel add-on to manually edit those

    3. if you want to export custom fields, this is a way to do it - talent.asgcrm.com/how-to-create-custom-fields-in-corehr-and-send-them-to-powerapps-common-data-services

BUT - we are not talking here about custom fields, right? they are the standard ones. if the entity is published in CDS (and it is - cdm_department) than you should be able to connect to it. the parent-child relationship is also enabled...so this should be enough for the PowerBI report

You CANNOT bring new entities in CDS (yet) if Microsoft did not publish them from CoreHR. On the other hand, right now (may22, 2019) there are some entities which have been theoretically integrated with CDS and they still don't show up.
