    RE: Multi Level BOM

Shortly: Single-level production BOM means all components used are purchased. Multi-level production BOM consist of one or more subassembly as the components.

Even more short: multi level BOM is a BOM that consists also of other BOMs.

Refer to the material, provided by other member, and here also: msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh168201(v=nav.90).aspx

    RE: Multi Level BOM

If you have a Bicycle Manufacturing, in the Bicycle BOM you need to have all the parts, such as Handlebar, Brake, Wheels, Frame.... list goes on. Frame has its own BOM and when you look at the Bicycle  BOM it will be a multilevel BOM.

Following is an example for a bicycle which use Multi-Level BOM

    RE: Multi Level BOM

    Hello,

    Simple explanation:

A Bill of Materials (BOM) contains a list of all the raw material components (all the parts) that will make up the finished item.

Sometimes one of the raw material components in your BOM list will also be made up of it's own components (needs to be built first). So while your BOM lists all the raw material components needed to make your finished item, one of these components now has a list of it's own - all the parts it will need to become that sub-component.

So on the BOM, there is a line Type for each component listed. This line type specifies whether the component listed is consider an Item or a Production BOM to build an item. If your BOM listing has multiple components and one of the lines is set to the Type = Item, then that is simply a raw material component that you can grab off the shelf in your warehouse. If one of the lines is set to Production BOM, then this item is made up of it's own list of components. For each line that is set to Production BOM, there will be another Production BOM record that lists all the parts for that item to be made.

In other words, some Bill of Material lines will reference an item and some Bill of Material lines will reference another Bill of Material because that sub-component needs to be built too.

So a multi level BOM is a BOM listing where at least one of the sub-components has it's own Bill of Materials. You might call this a sub-assembly. Basically some of the items that make up your finished item also need to be made.
