cannot create transferorder to move items from invent location to production location

We do have a sales order of a production item. Now the MRP generates POs  for the BOMLine Items of the ProductionItem.

We receive the the POs in several locations. all this is fine.

Now I create transfer orders from the locations with the BOMLineItems to the production location.

Posting/Sending the transfer orders fail for each single one with the message that there is no inventory on the location

What is wrong ? Normaly it should be possible to transfer items from one to another location

I have the same question (0)

    Hi CRSW,

assuming your warehouse is same for production and PO's. you should be using Transfer journal instead of transfer order.

Transfer journal - immediate move .

Transfer order - used for warehouse to warehouse transfer

In addition, can you check what location is being used on transfer and make sure on-hand exist on that location, if not, you need to change the location so it's picking up inventory from right location.

System does allow you to move inventory from warehouse/location etc. If this still doesn't resolve your problem, please try posting some screenshots so we have better idea of what issue you are having.

    Thanks,

It's a transfer from location to location so a transfer order.

The items are there but reserved for  production.

And for some reasons there is an error message that there is no stock available

Not sure which terminology you are using. Location on business terms can be actual warehouse. However from system perspective location is within the warehouse.

Transfer order doesn't allow to move inventory between locations (system locations that are under warehouse), it's meant for warehouse to warehouse transfer.

How come the items are reserved against the production? Is the production order against the PO location? If so and you want to move inventory to production location and then use from there then you need to do following:

    1. Unreserve from production order

    2. move inventory to production location

    3. reserve production order again.

Assuming you are not using Advanced warehouse.

    Hi CRSW.

If you want to change the location of items, you can use the transfer journal.

According to the issue that there is no inventory on the location, you can reset the status of production order as ‘created’.

Then the items in inventory will finally be available physical.

    Hi.

I want to create a transfer order because I have to move the inventory from a warehouse  to the warehouse where the production is located (500 km)

I do not understand why the reservation is made (which blocks the transfer) because in the production control setting I set the reservation flag to "Start" so there should be no reservation before production start.

    Hi CRSW,

When you run MRP for a production item from a SO, system will automatically generate related planned purchase order and planned production order.

Once you confirm it, the purchase item will be automatically associated to the production order which is in scheduled status. When you changed the status of production into ‘created’, the items in PO will disassociate with production. You can transfer or deal with the purchase item as you want.

The ‘start’ option you selected in production control parameters are used for on-hand inventory.

Yeah I managed to stop Production order creation from Firming Planned orders in state created so I can transfer the items now.

Interessting now is that I set the picking location for production to a special warehouse and my transfer order puts all items there but the production order tries to pick the items in the standard warehouse for the items and not in the mentioned picking warehouse for production.

    Hi CRSW,

If the distance of the production plant and the warehouse is 500KM, did you setup a site per physical location? Or do you have the warehouses within the same site? If you are using sites, you shouldn't have this issue.

currently we do have only 1 site. we hab multiple before but than the process did not work because the planned PO is generated to the site where the production is.

In our case the PO must be generated to the warehouse for the item and then transfered.

handling of Items from different warehouses seems not to work in D365. If an Item is not in the same site-warehouse as the production order. The system generates order (production and PO) to the production site without warehouse
