Posted on by

Hi,

My company is located in Unite Arab Emirates and all the Address fields which capture country name uses the country code "ARE".

We are used to the code as "UAE" for United Arab Emirates for all practical purposes.

Is there any way to change the country code for the system

Thanks in Advance

Jomy George

    RE: Changing Country Code

    Hi Jomy,

It is not alllowed to change pre-defined country codes in AX 2012. There is a separate list maintained in the kernel which would require to meet the codes used in the client.

ARE is the official ISO-3 coding.

If you change the country codes, localizations might break! There is a field in the country/region table called 'IsImmutable'. For records created during installation it is enabled. Please don't touch it.

Yes you can rename primary key or you can create new (UAE) and add address format as per your need. And click on update button it will update for all the location where this format has been used.

As one of my friend suggested, I tried it in the following path.

    Organization administration > Setup > Addresses > Address Setup > Country/Region

Then i right clicked on country code and in Record Info > Rename.

after this in Address format, i updated addresses.

Will there be any issues in future if i do in this way ?

    Thanks for your continued support

Issues? I just informed you about breaking localizations. There is a separate list in the kernel maintained. Have also a look at the comments from Kevin Kidder (Microsoft) in the next thread:

I think Mr. Andre gave your answer for this. We cannot say all impact for this change.

I have done the similar setup and its working fine till now. I did this after installation. I created new country code and add custom address format and its working fine for me.

For sure new countries are not affecting the system. I'm not sure if there are localizations build or customized for the United Arab Emirates. If not, it will probably not have any impact. But I would personally not change it to prevent issues. The field IsImmutable is only used for validating if the record might be deleted or not.

    RE: Changing Country Code

Hi André - I hope you can help me.

I have the same requests from customers, and the answer is - ofcourse -  that we have to keep the ISO-3 coding as countrycode, and use the ISO 2 where needed.

Though - I have, with no luck, tried to find a standard solution on setting up the right standard for address for Sweden (  use the ISO3166-2 code : SE-123 45 - according to: www.upu.int/.../postal-addressing-systems-in-member-countries.html)

How can I do this ?

    Best Regards
