Retail Kits and Automatic Assembly Order Creation from Sales Order

It seems that not a lot of people have used the Retails Kits part of AX, but I'm finding that it could be very useful if it works the way it is supposed to work.  I have a specific question for anyone who has worked with this feature.  On TechNet, there is a statement "Enter any additional information to the sales order, and then process the sales order to automatically generate the assembly order for the kit products.", which should be the key statement to getting an Assembly Order to be automatically created, but it is not. Or at least it is not informative enough to tell me exactly what "Process the Sales order" means.

I have read through a lot of different information on TechNet and I feel that I must be missing some background process or a setting that isn't allowing the Assembly Order to be automatically generated.

The steps I reference above come from this site:

http://technet.microsoft.com/EN-US/library/dn497729.aspx

As always, any help, suggestion, or resource is greatly appreciated.

Right now I'm trying to get this to work in the Dynamics AX 2012 R3 Demo environment, in case that helps anyone with suggestions.

    Hi,

I am having the exact same problem, were you able to get it working?

As I have been told and understand it, Automatic creation of the Kit Order is functionality that is only used for replenishment in the Retail module.  I was trying (and hoping) to use the functionality with a standard Sales Order, but this is not standard functionality in AX and would need to be customized.

Instead, for my clients we are just using the "Sales Order BOM Explosion" functionality and will do some customization around getting this to work for the clients.  Good luck on your project!

    Hi,

Did you finally find the way to generate the assembly order, from sales order ??

    Robert,

I did not end up using the assembly order because the client was looking to have the items separated out on the order and not built together and shipped as a single unit.  I believe there are some you tube videos of the process that you might be able to find on how to setup the sales order to generate the assembly order.

The Kit order is created automatically when the sales order is completed, i.e. the call center needs to have the 'enable sales order completion' check box marked and you need to click the Complete button from the sales order.

The Kit order is found in Retail/Common/Kits/Kit orders, however I beleive that you do not get any info message saying that the kit order was created. There is a reference to the sales order in the description field on the Kit order.

Thanks!  It has been a while since I needed to look at this but it makes sense.  I think I know what I was missing previously, but that was a couple years ago.

If you have 2012 R3 then you have Call Centre module and need to enable it, and it will work on sales orders.

(This module adds a lot of needed functionality for order management even if not in retail.)

    Hi,

Has anyone managed to get an assembly order generated from a POS transaction as opposed to a sales order on the client?

Automation in retail industry is shifting the existing business models. So it’s a good idea to start with finding out what the new realities are. There's no way to compete on the fast-changing market with increased retail-margin pressure, investments in e-commerce, lack of specialists – and thus a high demand on them – using traditional cost-reduction means. That's primary why retailers are turning to automation to support and increase their profits.
