What is a plugin and how must be considered?

Hi all,

i want to connect with ms graph from a plugin but the first question that I have faced is... what is a plugin?

I mean, if I navigate to the official ms graph website, I can choose different ways to connect to the API for the different scenarios... but which one I have to choose?

https://developer.microsoft.com/en-us/graph/get-started

is the CRM a mvc applicacion and the plugin can be considered as code behind? probably not...

can somebody help to clarify it?
