Sickness Absence Recording - Recording of Open Ended

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi there.

I had an overview of D365 Talent yesterday to see where potential gaps may exist in core HR/People processes versus what we need.  I was very surprised to see/hear that, when recording sickness absence, the system insists on an end date before the record can be processed/approved.  For holidays, I can understand this but for sickness it's a totally different ball game (in the UK) and you'd want the start date added on day 1 and end date only added when the employee returns to work.  Waiting for employees to come back to work BEFORE you add start and end dates just doesn't cut the mustard if you want to effectively monitor & understand sickness trends, issues and lparticularly intervening where long term sickness may become apparent.

I'm taking the advice we were given as 'fine', so if that is the case, what's your experience in utilising the sickness absence piece, particularly for UK users, and how has your business overcome this obstacle?

You can enter an estimated end date for reporting purposes. Then use the 'Update time-off' function when the actual end date is known to correct the record. For long term sick, you can use e.g. the end of the month as the estimated date and again use the 'Update time off' function if the employee returns before that date or create a new leave/absence request if they are still off. D365T will post a transaction per date (day) so these can be grouped by period for reporting. Hope this helps.

    Hello Dave,

Sickness in Talent is registered as part of Leave and Absence
Sickness will be a type of absence, and can be reported by the manager or employee, as long as the employee is enrolled in a leave plan.

For US customers this will work, but for European customers this process typically does not work for sickness. For example the reporting on short, middle or long term sickness, calculations of sickness percentages or specific follow up actions can't be easy maintained.

I am working for FourVision, and we are working on a different Web App to support this process. You could have a look at our website, and book a demo if wanted: https://www.fourvision.com/fourvision-sickness-web-app-for-microsoft-dynamics-365-for-talent

Beside from this, creating a customer specific powerapp might be a solution.

    With regards,

    Erik
