Inventory movement from a sales order not allowed??

Hello,

We want to have a bin "Shipping" for the goods that are ready for shipment because sometime they stay on the shipping dock for a while (customers have to pay first). Therefore, we want to use the "Shipping" bin in all the sales document lines and use an "inventory movement" from the sales orders page to register the movement from the actual bin to the "shipping" bin. However, NAV doesn't let us make this inventory movement: "The document sale orders is not supported".

Does someone know why this is forbidden and how can we have the same result using another nav functionality?

thanks in advance

JB

    Hello,

You might consider using Bins with the built-in Picking process in NAV. This process includes creating a Pick (Picklist) for the Items on a Sales Order. When the Pick is created it puts a hold on the Items in that warehouse Bin so they can't be used for other orders. Then when the employee physically picks those items from the bin then that person can Register the Pick document in NAV. When a Pick document is Registered, all those Items are moved (in NAV) from the Bin they were previously stored in (in the warehouse) into a Bin usually called SHIPPING (or can be named whatever you want). The items remain in this SHIPPING bin until they are posted as shipped. If the customer does not pay and the Sales Order gets cancelled, then the items can be moved from the SHIPPING bin back to the inventory bin they belong.

    Thank you Robertas,

You're right, I can use Internal Movement. With a small dev, I can make a button in the sales order page that takes the info on items and quantity and creates an internal movement. I just thought it would be easier by using an inventory movement already in the sales order page, but for some reasons, it is not working...

    Hi JB

It depends on what kind of setup you're using for the Location. If it's not directed put-away and pick, I think you're best to do 'Internal Movements' rather than 'Inventory Movements'. Can you give this a go and see if it works for you?

Thank you Alexander for your answer.

Actually, we physically bring the goods to the shipping dock. Therefore the point is to have the right inventory for each bin at all time.

Generally, for information on the movement of items, you can refer here: msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh173270(v=nav.90).aspx

I'm not sure I'm getting your question right - is it so that you have all your items located in different bins, and once they are selected in the sales order, you need to transfer them to some temporary virtual bin to show that they have been prepared for the shipment, but not yet shipped unless customer is paying?

If so, do you need this information on item level, so you would use some reports that will show availability by bins, and some user should see that some items are located in "shipping" bin? What benefit of knowing that does he get by that?
