Provide an example for your requirement and send a screenshot if possible how currently the modification is working.
What i mean above was if you set a table relation on the field when you add that to the request page, that should give you the ability of Find as you type.

When you add the field to the request page select the field and on the properties set the table relation for that field and that should give you find as you type.
