Drop Down List & Field Groups

Hi

I made a drop down list by using filed group and I have some questions …

1.      Why if the filed group is named something other than Drop Down the drop down will show default fields not the file group?

2.      What will happen if I created 2 field groups which one will be used and how to use the non-default one?

3.      How to let the drop down search in different fields should they be part of primary key or what ?

4.      After selecting a value from the drop down list how can I make the display value different than the one stored in the database, like to show patient Name while the patient ID is stored in database

I like to have answers for all above how it can be done in old way also in classic client and forms

Regards

Did you ever find an answer to your field groups question?  I've same questions and would appreciate if you could share what you've learned.

    Thanks.

    1) Only Field Group with the name "DropDown" is used, if not found, then automatically the primary key and description fields will be used (don't know exactly how the description field is identified)

    2) Name the non-default as "DropDown" and rename the existing in "DropDownOld", for example.

    3) Every field you need to sort by have to be part of a key (primary or secondary) so, you need to create a new key including them.

    4) It's necessary to write some custom code in field's OnValidate trigger.

I missed the last sentence: Field Group concepts apply only to Role Tailored Client.

    Daniele,

    Thanks for the reply!

Why would is "4) It's necessary to write some custom code in field's OnValidate trigger." this necessary?

Sorry, regarding that I point I understood you wanted to store the patient name.

The optimal solution would be having one field which stores patient ID, filled by users via Drop Down menu, and a FlowField automatically calculated and not editable, having a CalcFormula like Lookup(Patient.Name WHERE (ID=FIELD(Patient ID)))
